The schedule is composed of lectures in the mornings and hands-on labs with experiments and group work in the afternoons. In the breaks, groups and evenings, there is plenty of room for the exchange of ideas and the discovery of exciting new research approaches or economic models. We also use a carefully selected and unique combination of presentations, interactive learning, practice, groupwork and self-training.

Participation is open for students from engineering and economic disciplines, such as systems and electrical engineering, electronics, energy and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, architecture, as well as physics, chemistry, process engineering, computer science, economics, renewables and political science. The breadth of the program is sutaible for Bachelor, Master and PhD students, as well as interested professionals seeking an upgrade of their inter-disciplinary capabilities.

As part of the course, we issue a final certificate of attendance and proof of attendance valued at 3 ECTS credits, after the final exam and the group project presentation are successful. Therefore, continuous attendance in full-time during the course days is necessary.

Short summary

The programme 2026

The programme provides an introduction to the dominant future energy technologies for generation, distribution and storage, their development and industrialisation, economic viability and policy framework.

Subjects are grouped into 3 major categories:

  1. Principles and R&D
  2. Applications
  3. Systems
  4. Business models
  5. Practice

Thereby, theory is translated into practical know-how.

Select experts from leading universities, institutes and companies will give lectures ranging from research to market structures and from the principles of renewable energies to their applications.

Theoretical knowledge is complemented with practical workshops (table experiments) in the first week and creative group projects (e.g. design thinking, efficient production and storage  of solar power and fuels, planning renewable distribution systems and solar cities) in the second week with special emphasis on hands-on experience. Overall, ISU energy 2026 are 2 weeks of highly intensive training in interdisciplinary areas of renewable energies, supported by international experts and a motivated group of participants.
