ISUenergy 2026 - Summer University

International Summer University on Renewable Energy and Sustainability

  • From 23. August - 04. September 2026. The course language is English.

  • In the beautiful mountain village Falera, Grisons, Switzerland.

  • Within the same framework and supported by key stakeholders as in the successful 2025 edition.

The school is now open for applications of a maximum of 65 students until 31 May 2026 (23.59 pm CEST).

What can you expect?

  • 2 weeks of intensive course work
  • more than 20 lectures given by internationally renowned experts
  • indoor and outdoor experiments, for example with PV and PVT components, solar collectors, wind generators, as well as with hydrogen and meteorological equipment
  • group work on selected real projects to improve sustainable supply of renewable energy and its efficiency
  • excursions to renewable energy production and distribution facilities
  • up to 4 ECTS credits for your active participation in the  ISUenergy course
  • a gorgeous mountain landscape
  • 3'000 years of renewable energy use
  • cultural immersion and international exchange
  • a range of tourist activities for before, during or after the course
  • becoming part of the ISUenergy alumni network
  • a unique experience

The ISUenergy 2026 will cover a wide spectrum, from the fundamentals of renewable energy technologies (photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, wind, hydropower, and geothermal) and their transmission and storage technologies (using solid, liquid, and gaseous concepts) as well as their development, component production, and industrialization up to the realization of sustainable energy systems and the political and economic framework conditions. This enables the development of a holistic view of the complex interrelationships involved in succeeding in the energy transition to a sustainable economy.

The schedule is composed of lectures in the mornings and hands-on labs with experiments and group work in the afternoons. In the breaks, groups and evenings, there is plenty of room for exchange and the discovery of exciting new research approaches or economic models. We also use a carefully selected and unique combination of presentations, interactive learning, practice, group work and self-training (Video ISUenergy 2026).

Participation is open to students from various disciplines, such as engineering and economics, including systems and electrical engineering, electronics, energy and environmental technology, mechanical engineering, architecture, as well as physics, chemistry, process engineering, computer science, business, renewable energies, and political science. The breadth of the program is suitable for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral students, as well as for interested professionals who want to expand their interdisciplinary skills.

As part of the course, we issue a final certificate of attendance and proof of attendance valued up to 4 ECTS credits, after the final exam and the group project presentation are successful. Therefore, continuous attendance in full-time during the course days is necessary.

The course fee is 2026 is displayed on the registration page and includes:

  1. Course registration & admission
  2. 2 weeks of course work
  3. 2 weeks of accommodation
  4. Lunch meals and coffee breaks during course days (Monday-Friday)
  5. Transportation and meal for excursions during the course

The fee is payable after acceptance and can be refunded if participation is not possible due to visa restrictions, provided the claim is made 2 weeks before the course.

Deepen your real-life knowledge about sustainable energy production, distribution, storage and use. Network with experts and like-minded professionals and academics from around the world. Discover unique approaches to solving tomorrow's challenges.

The program 2026

The program provides an introduction to the dominant future energy technologies for generation, storage and distribution, their research, development and industrialisation, economic viability and policy framework.

Subjects are grouped into 5 major categories:

  1. Principles and R&D
  2. Applications
  3. Systems
  4. Business models
  5. Practical exercises

In the evening, the sessions are public.

Thereby, theory is translated into practical know-how.

Invited experts from leading universities, institutes and companies will give lectures ranging from research to market structures and from the principles of renewable energies to their applications.

Theoretical knowledge is complemented with practical workshops (indoor and outdoor experiments) in the first week and creative group projects (e.g. design thinking, efficient production and storage  of solar power and fuels, planning renewable distribution systems and solar cities) in the second week with special emphasis on hands-on experience.

Overall, ISUenergy 2026 is a 2 weeks of highly intensive training in interdisciplinary areas of renewable energies, supported by international experts and a motivated interdisciplinary group of participants.
