Why this interdisciplinary international summer university?

Energy production is a fundamental element of any modern society - yet we are witnessing decreasing financial and environmental stability of our current energy supplies, resulting in periodical crises and political unrest, as well as increasing environmental disasters.

Strengthening renewable energies and their distribution systems will thus reduce the environmental damages and increase independence from external sources for most countries. This transition will mitigate the larger long-term problem of climate change, but it will required fundamental changes of the production, distribiution.

The technological development and successful industrial production of wind turbines, solar panels, battery storage systems, electric cars and heat pumps over the last few decades has brought down the costs in some cases to a level below that of fossil energy solutions.

However, achieving the energy transition and strengthening sustainability will not be driven by technology alone, but will always depend heavily on political decisions. In addition to traditional market forces, successful approaches in European regions, cities and municipalities are important multipliers.

To gain acceptance, the transition to renewable energies must be economically viable and use proven solutions to ensure the reliability of supplies, which modern societies are relying on. A strong foundation of the technical know-how coupled with practical experience of implementation remains the solid response to the illusory world of fake news when it comes to energy and climate.

The programs offered by ISUenergy contribute to providing that foundation in a unique way.
